The first fluttering of your eyelids reveals a snapshot memory of last night ... a handful of chips. Okay, not so bad, just a few chips. Then the onslaught of images follow ... chips followed by ice cream, drinks ... the moan of realization rumbles out of your chest.
Oh yes, friend, we’ve all been there - the morning after. The question is where do you go from here? You either allow that moan to stretch into a day of dubious decisions or you brush it off and start anew. It is a choice. Maybe you have to allow yourself a minute to digest the realization.
But may I offer a word of caution? If you choose the path of guilt and self-loathing, you may be on that route longer than you like (with a bucket-load of bad food choices to boot!).
Negative thoughts lead to negative outcomes.
Scenario 1). If you start thinking, “Man, I’m such an idiot. How could I do that?” “What’s the point? I never stick with anything?” “Screw it. I’ve already messed this up.” Want to take a wild guess about your breakfast choices? Nine times out of 10, you’ll stay off course, and keep making bad food choices.
Scenario 2). You wake up, replay the food party from the night before ... then you think, “okay, one night is just that. Time to get back at it.” Just like that, you can self-correct. Leave the bad decision making where it left off. And let the morning after be a fresh start.
